Guest Designer Suzanne Wallage-Memory-Dex DIY Wood Box

Hi friends,
I’m so excited about this first post!
I started with putting the box together and added some gesso. When that was dry I went in with acrylic paint and mixed some colors together (with white) to get a more soft look.
After the paint was completely dry I used a stencil from Clear Scraps with pink crackle paste and added some unicorn embossing powder.

To finish the box off I added some design paper (masterpiece design)
Then it was time to start working on my first Memory-Dex Card!
I just love love love the acrylic!

First I peeled of the foil on both sides and then added alcohol ink (ranger) and made a rainbow of colors. I also splatterd with gold ink to add some extra interest
Once the alcohol was dry I added some embellishments (pretty little studio) and a photo.

I hope that I could have inspired you to bring out all the colors!

Tabbed Chipboard Thanksgiving Recipe Mini Album

Tami here on the Clear Scraps Blog with you today. Are you enjoying the fall weather? That is, if you have "fall" weather in your area. Here in Texas, most fall days are a brisk 80 degrees! WOW! I better grab a sweater ;)

It's hard to think about Fall and not include Thanksgiving along with it. The colors, the pumpkins, and the pumpkin spice EVERYTHING that is in stores this time of year. They put that pumpkin spice in EVERTYHING it seems, from candles, to cookies, to coffee, to cereal! I even saw Pumpkin Spice potato chips the other day. Not so sure how those would be.

Our family has a lot of special Thanksgiving recipes. Every year we make my Grandma's cranberry sauce. My mom has her own special way to do the turkey, I make a pretty good gravy, and the homemade rolls are Mom's take on Grandma's recipe.

I thought this year, I'd ask everyone to write down the recipe for what they are bringing and I'd put them all together in a mini album.

I used Clear Scraps 6 X 6 Tabbed Chipboard Mini Album and embellished it with paint and papers and stickers...

To embellish the front cover, I painted the Stack Pumpkin Chipboard Embellishment before backing the openings with different printed papers...

I used each tabbed page as a divider for each section of recipes: Mains, Sides and Sweets. Take a look inside...

I prepped the pages by painting about 1" along the side with the holes using cream paint. I also painted the tabs and edges of each page.

Once the paint dried, I started adding my papers to embellish the covers and pages. Rub On letters were used to add the titles to the cover, tabs and pages. 

1" book rings were used to bind the album and I tied each with 3 different coordinating ribbons.

I think these books would make a great gift for your guests, you could have them bring multiple copies of their recipes.

Ghostly Pink Shaker Tag

Hey crafty friends! 

It is spooky season, which means candy corn is readily available. Using that as my inspiration, I decided to create a candy corn tag, but made it PINK.

First, grab a tag from the Acrylic Tag Album set and a few alcohol inks. Prepare to create the three bands of color exhibited on candy corn.

Remove the protective film from one side of the tag only. Leave the other side of the tag protected with the film for an easy cleanup. Using painter's tape and a heat gun, begin layering ink starting from the top with white, working your way down shades of pink. 

Once that is completed, set it to the side to finish drying. 

Begin working on your Mini Ghost Shaker. Of course I decided to heat emboss the top layer. I wanted a dimensional and glossy look for my ghost. 

 

I then covered the back piece of the shaker in white cardstock and added in my shaker mix. Assemble the shaker together, remembering to remove the protective film from the acetate ghost layer.

 

Now that the ghost is completed, grab the tag and remove the remaining protective film. Also grab some embellishments and prepare to decorate.

 

Below is the step-by step of where I added elements.

 

Add some ribbon or trim to the top of the tag, and there you have it-- a completed ghostly tag. How cute?!

Monster Mash Halloween Card

Tami here on the Clear Scraps Blog with you today.

Can you believe it is almost time for Halloween!? Always seems to "creep" up on me ;) At least the weather is cooling off a bit here in South Texas now that it's October; It was almost in the 80's!

My kiddos are both grown so I don't have the usual bustle of costume making to keep me occupied in preparation for the holiday. Which leaves more time for some sPoOky crafting. 

Have you ever looked at something and seen something other than what it was supposed to be? That's what happened the first time I looked at Clear Scraps Wings Chipboard Embellishments...

They are beautiful wings, perfect to add to a project, especially one with angels. But... for some reason, the top one reminded me of hair for a monster! I couldn't get the idea out of my head, so I decided to try it out on a Halloween card. 

Here's what I came up with...

I thought my monster turned out pretty well! What do you think?

I painted the chipboard wings/hair with lime green paint that matched my printed papers. Of course he had to have googly eyes.  I drew the nose in with a black marker and made the mouth and tooth from cardstock.

The face and hulking shoulders were cut from printed cardstock. 

For a title, I painted Clear Scraps Spooky Chipboard Word Title orange to use as the sentiment. And how could I resist putting googly eyes in the two "o's? Obviously, I couldn't!

I think a banner of different versions of this monster would make a unique piece of Halloween decor. Or you could make tags to hang off of goodie bags using him.

Circle Bats Mini Shaker Acrylic Card

Hello friends! It's Jennifer here back on the blog today on the first day of October! I'm excited to share a quick and easy card I created for Halloween using some Clear Scraps products!  And I'm going to show you my techniques!  

The star of my card is the Circle  Bats Mini Shaker Shape and will show you how I    assembled my shaker!  I  began by taking patterned paper and adhering it to the chipboard base with my Beacon 3-in-1.  I    cut away excess with my scissors followed by using my sanding tool. 

Next, I    adhered the two middle chipboard frames to the base as shown. I  then added some of the Spooky Shaker Filler to the center.

To adhere my acrylic piece, I  placed my adhesive on the outside rim of the chipboard.  I    find it best to use clips to hold my pieces together as the glue dries.

Next, I  painted the top frame with black acrylic paint. 

I  then added embossing ink and powder to the bats only on the top frame. I  shook off the excess powder and set with my heat tool.

Taking my 12x12 Acrylic Sheet, I  cut out a 4.25 x 5 inch piece for my card.  I  applied black, purple, and orange alcohol inks as shown. I    then added a few drops of mixative in White Cap for contrast. 

Once my card was assembled, I   adhered my shaker again using my Beacon Adhesive.  I  added a cute sticker banner to the top from the collection I  used. 

Here is a peek of the inside of the card!  I  used a 3x4 journaling card as my background which I  used a stamped sentiment as well as some extra stickers.

Trio of Halloween Shakers

Tami here with you on the Clear Scraps Blog today with not one, not two, but THREE projects I'd like to share with you.

Halloween will be here before you know it, and if you enjoy celebrating the holiday, there is lots to do to get ready! There's the candy to buy - eat - then rebuy for the kids, costumes to make, yard and house to decorate and the list goes on!

So why not get a head start on SpOoKy time by getting a little crafting done?

Clear Scraps has some great Halloween Shakers and I picked 3 to embellish: Mini Tall Pumpkin Shaker, Mini Circle Ghosts Shaker and Mini Spider Shaker...

These shakers were so fun to embellish and fill! I hadn't yet tried my paint pens on chipboard, so I decided to use them here rather than paint or ink the shakers. They worked very well, nice and crisp and opaque. 

I used printed paper to cover the solid back piece of each shaker. Then filled them with assorted fill including sequins.

I found the Spider Web Chipboard Embellishment in my Clear Scraps stash and adhered the spider shaker to it.

I haven't decided what to use them on yet. I might use them to make a banner, or I could use them on cards or gift bags or even on a scrapbook layout!

Happy Birthday Bag Decorations

How many times do you find yourself scrambling last minute to wrap a present?  Maybe you're like me and you keep some bags or wrapping paper around "just in case."  If you do, I have a great idea to jazz up some plain gift bags so your recipients will know you were thinking of them!

Hi, it's Maureen today - and I have a simple project idea for you that works on any handled gift bag.  All you need is a gift bag, some card stock papers...and the great embellishments from Clear Scraps!

For this project, I'm using the Mini Shaker Present Shape along with the Birthday Chipboard Word Title and one of the Two Presents Chipboard Embellishments.  I started by painting these with a white acrylic paint.  When that dried, I did a coat of sparkle glitter glue on top.

Next, I've taken a piece of black card stock, cut at 6.5" by 8.5" and folded it in half the long way.  Then, I proceeded to die cut a rectangular opening in the middle.  This worked best for me by using a die cut on the fold and put it through my die cut machine; however, you can simply hand cut a rectangular opening instead.  It just needs to be long enough to fit your handles through.

I've placed this bag topper over my folded bag, and then began to decorate the front of the topper.  Feel free to use your imagination as you decide how this should look!  I've glued some letters that spell HAPPY on the top right corner and then added my sparkly Birthday Chipboard Title underneath.  I like how these are a contrasting font from each other.

In the left corner, I've added my Present Chipboard Embellishment along with some coordinating papers as decoration.  This embellishment is backed by a black and white polka dot paper, and glued to the topper.

To assemble the Present Mini Shaker, I'm using the same black and white polka dot paper as a background, glued to the base piece.  Then, I glue 2 of the outlines to this shape, and fill it with an assortment of colorful confetti.  I also did the bow - this has a yellow pattern paper as a background, and to get the shape right, I trace it first with a pencil then cut it out.  These holes in the bow have black confetti - such fun!

When you have the colors you want inside, take the acrylic piece of the mini shaker and remove the film from both sides.  Then, use a clear glue to adhere it to the top of your shaker.  The final step is to glue on the painted sparkly top border and let dry.

Once your shaker is ready, put your bag topper on your bag first to measure how far down it will go.  Then, glue the shaker on to the bag before you open it.  Don't glue it too far down, or the bag won't open well for you.

And now we have a personalized gift bag ready for gift giving!  The color possibilities are endless - and this would also work for holidays too.  How will you decorate your gift bag?

Crafty Hoop Card

Hi crafty friends! Let's make a cute and colorful card fit for your favorite crafter.

You will need:

• Embroidery Hoop Embellishments
• Embossing Powder
• Embossing Ink
• 4 1/4in x 5 1/2in piece of solid cardstock
• 2 1/8in x 5 1/2in piece of patterned cardstock
• Die cuts or stickers
• Glue and Foam Adhesive
• Acetate/Clear Plastic
• Sentiment

 

First, grab the Embroidery Hoop Embellishments. You will only need one for this card. 

Heat emboss your embroidery hoop. I used yellow for the body of the hoop and gold at the top to highlight the metal pieces of an embroidery hoop. If you do not want to heat emboss, you can simply paint the hoop or use a medium like Nuvo drops.

 

Adhere your acetate to the back and remove the excess from around the embroidery hoop.

Layer your die cuts/stickers along the bottom left of the hoop. Be strategic to cover any imperfections in your embossing powder application. Add foam tape when layering pieces to create dimension.

Now, let's work on the card front. Adhere the patterned cardstock strip to one side of solid cardstock. You should create a split card front. If you would like to take things a step further, consider stitching around the panel as I did. However, this is optional.

Align your hoop in the center of your panel and adhere it down. Finally, adhere this completed panel to the card base and there you have a completed card.

Just A Note

Hello Friends,

It's Sandy Diller here today with a fun little shaker card that I created using the 

Mini Shaker Envelope from Clear Scraps.

 

 

 

This is a 5" X 7" card so I began with paper cut to 7" X 10" and scored in the center.

A panel (shown here in Navy Blue) was cut 4.75 X 6.75, embossed with music notes and added to the front of the card.

 

 

I began by cutting off the top portion of the envelope to make it appear open.

All pieces were painted.

The acrylic piece was cut to match.

The music note paper was cut to match the size of the envelope with the flap open.

The painted pieces were stacked and sequins were added.

 

After peeling the protective covering from the acrylic on both sides it was glued in place on top of the sequins.  The final painted piece was placed on top.

This card was finished off by adding some die cut words and some small flowers

Wander Butterfly Tag

Hi crafty friends! Today I am sharing a layered tag.

The tag is from the Chipboard Tag Album and the butterfly is from the Fancy Butterflies Set.

The tag is covered in fabric washi. I wanted to accentuate the orange and pink hues in the background, so I chose to use those on the butterfly embellishment. I initially heat embossed the butterfly using a beige powder to serve as a base. I then used saltwater taffy embossing glaze along the upper portion of the butterfly and met that with a deeper pink embossing powder to create a gradient. 

With that complete,  I began layering. I used a mix of die cuts, crochet trim, and flowers to provide dimension. I them used thread, art stones and sequins to further embellish and add texture. 

To finish this off, I added a sentiment and splattered white ink. I also added heat to the acetate leaves to create more movement throughout the project.

Fancy Gate Chipboard Card

I wanted the gate to have a distressed gray color and thought at first I'd paint it or ink it. But I had a chalk writer out and thought I'd try it on the chipboard. It gave me the exact look I had in mind.

First I rubbed the chalk all over the design, then used my finger to lightly blend and soften the chalk...

I picked out 2 printed papers to use behind the gate. I traced around the design on the backs of the papers. Then cut out the pieces and adhered them to the back of the gate...

I made a card from cream cardstock and adhered printed papers to the top and bottom of the card, then adhered the gate to the card front...

For the sentiment, I cut a design out of printed paper, then adhered it to the lower right corner of the card...

In just a few minutes and in just a few steps, I had my card all finished and ready to send!

Stenciled Birthday Card

Tami here on the Clear Scraps Blog today with a project I'd like to show you. 

Have you checked out Clear Scraps line of fabulous stencils? There are so MANY to choose from, seasonal, holiday, letters, words, designs and more! And the "square" styles come in 2 sizes: 6" or 12". So you can size up or down depending on your project.

I used 2 different 6" stencils to make this birthday card for my friend Tinka...

As a paper crafter, it's nice to be able to create a special card for a special friend. Especially if that person is also a crafter and will appreciate the effort you took to make them a card!

I wanted to use the 6" Wishes Stencil to add the sentiment, but I wanted it to be unique. I thought about repeating and overlapping the words. I realized I could add to the look if I used oxide inks,

I started by taping around "HAPPY" on the stencil. Taping off portions of a stencil you don't want to use that are close to the portions you are using is a good way to make stenciling easier. You won't have to worry about accidentally getting paint or ink where you don't want it...

After I had stenciled "Happy" in lime green, I removed and cleaned the stencil with a paper towel...

I moved the stencil down and to the right, overlapping the lime "Happy" a bit, then inked in the word with orange ink. I removed and cleaned the stencil and repeated the process with pink ink.

Then I taped around "Birthday" and inked that in with blue ink, overlapping the pink "Happy".

I then lightly spritzed the cardstock with water. The type of paper you use is important. It needs to be strong enough to stand up to a bit of water without warping or pilling. You can also use smooth watercolor paper. Spritzing Oxide Inks with water makes the ink move like watercolor creating a softer look. Once I was happy with how it looked, I heat set the design...

I wanted the sentiment to be "defined", so I outlined "Happy Birthday" with a black sharpie...

I wanted to embellish the card a little more, so I added groups of flowers in the corners using the 6" Daisies stencil. I did not spritz the flowers, but I did outline them...

While I had the stencil and inks out, I decided to also add some flowers to the envelope...

I adhered the inked cardstock to a card I made from kraft cardstock. I added some black line doodles around the edges of the card and envelope and added black rhinestones to the flower centers.

Splish Splash

 

 

Hello Friends, It's Sandy Diller here to share a card I made for a friend who is planning a trip to the beach.  I will give her this card attached to a bottle of sunscreen.

The glasses become a fun shaker when the card is shaken a bit.  Every girl loves a little bling that is added to the glasses and flip flops.

Clear Scraps makes it so easy to create a festive card with their products.  I used the Mini Shaker Sunglasses and the Word n Shape Shape Summer - Flip Flop.

I have separated the Flip Flops from the set, look for the word Summer in my June 22 post.

Flag Mini Shaker Acrylic Card

Hello friends! Its Jennifer here on the blog today to share an acrylic card I created using one of the fun Mini Shaker Shapes from Clear Scraps.  There are multiple designs to choose from that will fit whatever theme or holiday you need!  Since it is Memorial Day here in the US, I created a patriotic themed project using the Flag Mini Shaker. And I will share the techniques I used! 

I began by painting the front chipboard frame as well as the inside/outside edges of the middle frames with chalk paint in red.  You don't necessarily have to use chalk paint but it does dry quickly. And I liked the color!

Using my Beacon Adhesive, I adhered patterned paper to the chipboard base of the shaker.  I trimmed away excess paper with scissors followed by using an x-acto knife and sanding tool. 

I cut a 4 x 5 1/2 inch piece from the 12x12 Acrylic Sheet for my card front.  Then using the 4x6 Stars Stencil, I applied a layer of modeling paste over the top. 

Once my paste was dry, I re-positioned my stencil and blended red and blue Distress Inks as shown.  As you can see, I left the middle "blank" for white. 

Here is a close up of the Flag Mini Shaker that I filled with traditional sequins and metallic stars.  I adhered it to the front of my card again using my Beacon Adhesive.  

I also added smaller embellishments such a die cut shapes as well as enamel dots for accent!
