Shiplap Tag Pencil Box

Shiplap_Shape_Small.

Shiplap Tag Pencil Box with this fabulous tag.

I was thinking of Back to school when I saw this super cute Tag.

 

I really wanted to keep the Shiplap visible and simple.

 

I’ve used A Sea Green Acrylic Paint and did 3 layers. 

I opted to not seal with Clear Gesso. I suggest to seal for a longer lifespan of your project.

 

For this Tag I thought it would be fun to make it a Pencil Box or Crafty keeper.

 

It can work for a number of uses let your mind go wild with possibilities.

 

Here are pictures with the measurements visible to make it easier to copy.

I started with a Legal size white cardstock that I had printed in and hadn’t used.

After cutting and scoring your cardstock piece. 
It will look like this.

So I thought, since I will be covering , and adding some lightweight chipboard, it is perfectly fine to recycle for this project.

Following instructions are for the box we will make for this project.

Start with the longest side.

The 1/2” score line is the glue tab for the sides to connect.

I am using wet glue.

A strong crafters glue is preferable.

Cut the smaller sections on each end those are not necessary.

Reference above illustration for how your cuts should look.

The long side with shorter score line is the top and the tabs create reinforcements for the top of our pencil box.

In the end you can cut away any cardstock exposed from the bottom of the box edge. 
The longer score line opposite the top tabs we just created for the top is now the bottom of the box. Cuts should resemble the above image. Angle the cuts on two tabs for  gluing together. They should be opposite sides. The others are for the very bottom and give this box extra stability and a very nice bottom.

Glue the final pinto the other side. You can turn the box over and get a ruler or bone folder to press down all of the tabs and side to make sure it’s all secure and ready to cover.

Get your lightweight chipboard pieces for the inside of your box.

You could put these in before gluing the top reinforcement tags they will be covered so it’s not going to be noticeable. Just a not for next time we make one.

I glued my box to the Shiplap_Tag before adding the pieces inside and outside. 
Again I used a very strong clear drying Craft Wet Glue/Adhesive.

Glue our finished box to the Shiplap_Tag

Align the bottom of the box to the bottom of the tag. Center it as best as you can, and that’s where you will attach the back of the box to the smooth back side of the Shiplap _Tag.

 

The interior and exterior matting pieces will be cut the same size as the lightweight chipboard pieces.

Refer back to the image of the lightweight chipboard piece.

This project is a great way to recycle cereal boxes.

Embellishments are up to you I hope that you will be inspired to make one for yourself or for a gift.

I decided to add large wood buttons for feet.
