Enjoy the Little Things

Dana here! Now that the month of March has arrived, I have spring fever! Now's the perfect time to start creating those Springtime projects!

Today I have a Springtime Home Decor project to share. I'll be using several Clear Scraps products, including Rectangle wood shape (you can find all the wood products available including Shiplap shapes that would work just fine for this project Click here mini shaker mushroom Click here and Clear Scraps Scallop Chipboard border Click here

The paper collection I chose to use is from Graphic45 "Little Things " (the gnomes and garden fairies are too cute) I will be inking all my papers using Tim Holtz Distress Ink Gathered Twigs. 

To begin our project, I covered my wood base with one of the patterned papers and cut to measure 10 x 7 & 7/8 inches. Adhere to your base using Beacon glue. I recommend using a strong permanent glue such as Beacon. 

Now take your scalloped chipboard borders
and cut apart one border. You can save the other scalloped border for a future project. Taking another coordinating paper, (I chose one of the border pieces from this collection) I cut to measure 10 inches. Then glue your paper onto your scalloped chipboard border, leaving about 1/4 inch of wood showing at the bottom. I trimmed away any excess paper at the top,  using an x-acto knife. Using your Clear Scraps sanding tool Click here or Distress tool, smooth out any rough edges.

Then glue your chipboard border piece at the top of your wood base. Set aside for now. 

 Now  let's begin to decorate and assemble our mushroom shaker. 

Remove your shaker pieces from your package. I applied some cream acrylic paint to the stem of my shaker piece. On the top mushroom cap piece, I applied some red acrylic paint. Let dry. 

Taking the bottom mushroom cap shaker piece,  I chose one of the patterned papers and traced around the mushroom cap. Cut out and glue your paper to your shaker base. Trim away any excess paper using an x-acto knife and smooth any rough edges using your sanding tool. 

Take your next 2 bottom chipboard shaker pieces and glue in place on top of your bottom piece. Fill your shaker with glitter, beads, sequins (I used Clear Scraps Summer sequins) Click here

Peel off the protective film from both sides of your acrylic shaker piece before gluing in place. Lastly glue your top shaker piece in place. Set aside to dry throughly before shaking!

Now the fun part of planning how you want decorate your project and what embellishments you would like to add. I don't glue anything down onto my project, until I'm happy with their placement. 

I fussycut some images from several scrap papers.

Then I adhered my butterfly at the top of my mushroom shaker. I slightly bent my mushroom paper piece to create dimension. Then glued onto the bottom stem of my mushroom. The gnome I adhered foam dots to the back before adhering.  Here's a photo for you!

Now choosing one of the Journaling cards, I cut it out and then carefully torn around the edges. Then applied some Distress Ink along the edges. I adhered foam tape onto the back of my Journaling card and adhered on the left side of my wood base. Here's a closeup!

I cut out a border sentiment piece and glued along the bottom edge. I also fussycut some flower fairies and adhered them above my border sentiment using foam dots. The Butterflies i glued above the flower fairies and added a touch of Stickles Stardust glitter to their wings! Here's some closeups!

To finish up my project, I glued my mushroom shaker above the sentiment border, next to my flower fairies. I took one of the matching chipboard sentiments and frame (from this paper collection) and glued at the top, along with a gold pearl gem over the hole in my chipboard frame. I attached a metal hanger on the backside of my wood base. Now it's ready to display on your wall!
