Failte, everyone! Or you might say...welcome! It's Maureen here with an Irish inspired project that is easy to assemble and glorious in all the lush green colors. Soon it will be St. Patricks Day, and this will brighten up your home decor with a hint of Spring!
I've chosen the Deco Frame Base to work with for this project, as it reminds me a bit of a Celtic knot. Of course, I had to select a variety of green papers, especially plaid.
For this project, I also picked out the shamrock wood piece from the Wood Spring Collection of shapes. I got to work cutting out the pieces after tracing them with a pencil. After, I used a sharp blade to cut the slits in the base paper panels.
From here, I coated the backs of the paper with decoupage and spread them on to the pieces. I let these dry and made sure to spread out all the bubbles. Once this is dry, I went over the top of each piece with another layer of decoupage glue. This serves as a protective layer for your frame and helps you avoid rips in your paper.
Now I wanted a delicate border around my frame, so I took the same papers I used for the frame and shamrock and cut out several smaller shamrocks with a die cut. To get these shamrocks to stand up in a 3D view, I've taken the edge of a dowel and wrapped it around some of the leaves, so they curled upward. I placed them in the corners of the frame and on the edges of my wood shamrock piece.
In my stash, I had a scrapbook panel that had a lovely Irish saying on it. I decided to cut it apart and apply it to the shamrock as well as the frame. I used a white card stock to back it and mounted it with foam squares first.
Once my detailing was complete, I glued the top of the frame to the back wood panel, but left the top edge unglued. This allowed me to slip my picture in from the top, and will also let me change it out later.
Adding a few small flowers for detail gives this frame a garden look! Such a pretty decor for St. Patricks Day - but it will also look nice on a shelf all year long too. I really love these frames from Clear Scraps. The possibilities are simply endless!
If you'd like to give this project a try, I have a supply list below. Take care for now and I'll see you next time!
Maureen
