This year is really "hopping" along, and I was starting to get in the mood for Easter, given the nice weather we have here in the Southwest! Hi it's Maureen today with an Easter project. Funny enough, I bumped into the Easter egg wood piece from the Wood Spring Collection this week, and decided to give my floral plants an upgrade.
I usually put a holiday-inspired pick into my flowers on my end table, so this was going to be my chance to decorate one of my own. I've started by base-coating the wood piece in white on both the front and back. After a first coat, I sanded down the panels to get it nice and smooth. Another coat of white paint gave it a nice finish.
Now, I am a big fan of plaid "anything" so I was really excited to see the brand new Clear Scraps stencils that came out! This project was going to be perfect to test run the gingham plaid on the 5x9 Plaids Stencil. I started by taping it down over the wooden egg piece.
My color choices are several pastel Distress inks - mostly because I couldn't choose just one! I think Easter eggs need to be full of color, don't you? I've taken a blender sponge and sponged over each row, with one color at a time. Once I was done, I lined up the stencil and did the remaining edge of the wood piece.
Next up, it was time to hot glue a dowel rod to the back of my egg. This will allow me to stick it into a vase.
I made another version of this egg as an Easter basket tag too and I even think you can hide them for your family to hunt, if you wanted! Your possibilities are endless with the wood pieces in this collection.
My final step was to embellish the corner of my egg with some felt flowers I had in my stash. These are glued on with tacky glue. I would like to decorate several of these for the holiday. Scattering on a display, perhaps on my dining room table is another idea I'd try!
Here's an option as well, which is more like a version of a topiary. Place the dowel in a cute canning jar with some candies, a greenery ring and a bow and you have an instant display!
Does this inspire you to get ready for Spring? This comes together in no time and you could decorate several and be ready for any Spring entertaining you plan to do. I hope you enjoyed this little project. I encourage you to look at those nifty new stencils from Clear Scraps - they are so much fun! Thanks for joining me today! See you next time!
