Hi there everyone!  Laura is here with you today, ready to make a splash with some

cool summer decor using the adorable XL Wood Flip Flops from Clear Scraps!

Clear_Scraps_Flip Flops_Dive into Summer(1)

Who needs a little summer fun decor?  Or maybe you have a pool and want to hang a fun

sign to decorate the area or by the entrance?  Summer is all about sunshine, fun, and

of course, flip flops!  These jumbo XL Wood pieces from Clear Scraps are so fun to

decorate up!  I used acrylic paint in a fun bright blue color that was a great match

for the paper collection that I was using for this project.

Then I painted the straps in a deeper blue color for a nice contrast. Both shades were

in the patterned paper I was using.  It's easy to pick your shades for these types of

projects when you use the embellishments or paper you'll use as a guide.  I added

the "title" of my project and also a couple of cute little flowers to dress up the flip flops

just a bit.  You could use rhinestones, enamel dots, a lot of things to dress them up!

In the bottom right corner, I used a couple of journal boxes, matted them onto

white cardstock for a nice contrast, and then added some stickers for a fun touch.

The little awning on the top was created by folding a pretty piece of paper about 1/4"

back to "pop-up" the piece of paper and using a paper punch to create the scallop.

With it's bright cheerful colors and cute little stickers, it's perfect for summertime!

But if you'd rather create for another season, or for every day decor, make sure to

check out all the awesome shapes of the XL Wood decor pieces in the Clear Scraps

store!  You can find them all right HERE.

Days Gone By Layout

Hi Crafty Friends!

I'm Dana and happy to be back on the Clear Scraps blog today! Do you love to scrapbook? Have you tried creating a layout on acrylic? It's so versatile and you can use many different craft mediums and apply to your acrylic to get the look you desire or specific theme.

For today's project I'm using Clear Scraps XL Scalloped shape. Click Here but there's many different styles to chose from. We will also be using Clear Scraps Chipboard heart Click Here and feathers chipboard Click Here

My papers I chose are from Blue Fern and are from their Jane's Memoirs collection. Since I'm creating a heritage layout, I thought these would be perfect!

To start, we will be decorating our chipboard shapes first. For the heart, cut away from your outside chipboard piece. You can save this outside piece for another project. I covered the main heart with some glitter, and painted the smaller heart inside with pink acrylic paint. Let dry. After it dries, I took some Pebeo Gliding wax -Gold, and rubbed with my finger over the swirled areas on my chipboard heart. Then I chose a background paper to decorate the inside of my heart. I traced and cut it out. Applied to the back of my chipboard heart with glue. I prefer to use Beacon 3 in 1 glue. It grabs quickly and has a permanent bond. Set your heart aside.

For the feather chipboard I applied some Finnibair rust pastes using a stiff brush and a pouncing motion. I like the effect this creates. Gives it a weathered rusty look. Let dry.

Next chose a background paper of your choice. I cut my 12x12 paper on all sides to measure about 10x10 inches. This leaves a nice clear edge of acrylic showing. I used a Clear adhesive tape to attach my scrapbook paper to the back of my acrylic sheet. I only applied tape to the four corners. You may use a clear drying craft glue, but be careful not too apply too much. Then I applied ink lightly to the edges of my acrylic sheet. I used Spectrum Noir Midas Metallic Ink in Rose Gold.

Now you can start planning how you want to decorate your layout. I chose a vintage photo of my grandparents as my main focal point. I matted my photo on cream cardstock and adhered to the middle left side of my page.  I fussy cut out a tiny envelope and ticket from ephermera pack. Scored and glued together my tiny envelope and tucked my ticket inside. Added a heart gem. Glued my envelope to the bottom right corner.

I glued my chipboard feather along the bottom of my page. The chipboard heart I glued above my photo at the top, using some foam tape on the back. This adds some dimension! I took a small paper rose and inked over the edges with some Distress Ink to give it an aged look. I then adhered my rose to the top of my chipboard heart.

To finish off my layout, I arranged and glued some flowers along the edge of my envelope at the bottom. I adhered some letters for my title on my page.

Flower Mini Shaker Card

Hola!

Tami here on the Clear Scraps' Blog with you today.

I have a fun little project I want to share with you; it's sure to brighten someone's day!

It is a thank you card featuring the Flower Mini Shaker...

Clear_scraps_flower_shaker_card_stencil_thanks_sunburst_tami_sanders

The flower shape is clean and simple and that made me think GRAPHIC! so I used bright colors accented with black to really make the elements PoP!

I started with a 5 X 10 card base of black cardstock.

Then I stenciled some bright rays on a 4 1/2' square of white cardstock. I used the 6" Spiral Stencil with yellow and orange ink...

Here are a few hints for working with stencils. First, use blue painter's tape to secure paper and stencil to your worksurface. Next, on a stencil like this one, with lined sections, it's easier if you glide your ink or paint along the direction of the design. In this case, I started with yellow ink on the outer edges. I pulled the ink from the inside down each of the "rays". Next, I added the orange, this time pulling from the center out toward the edges.

Next I got to work on the shaker. I wanted the background to match the sequins, so I used a pencil to outline the outer rim of the circle as well as the outside of the petals. I filled the designs in with yellow and blue ink...

Once the designs were inked, I cut them out - slightly INSIDE the lines. I checked to be sure that the papers fit properly and wouldn't stick out beyond the edges. Then adhered them to the back of one of the outline portions of the shaker...

Now for the fun part of any shaker --- FiLLiNg it! i used sequins that matched the ink colors...

Clear_scraps_flower_shaker_card_stencil_thanks_fill

I used a black marker to color the top outline part of the shaker, then assembled it. Be sure you remove the protective film from BOTH sides of the acrylic piece. I like using a glue like Zip Dry for this as any excess that might ooze out cleans up easily, and it holds well...

Clear Scraps has introduced some great new products lately! You can check them out in the What's New category of the Clear Scraps website.

Balloon Mini Shaker Layout

Hello and happy Friday!  It's a holiday weekend here in the US which means a longer weekend for most of us!  I love celebrating with family and this includes special milestones like birthdays!  I created a layout using the new Balloon Mini Shaker Shape and will show you the techniques I used.

Clear_Scraps_Balloons_Mini_Shaker_layout

I painted the front surface of the top chipboard frame of my shaker. I then used my Beacon Adhesive to adhere the two middle chipboard frames together. I  used the same paint to cover the edges of the frames. I set them aside to dry to work on decorating the base.

Clear_Scraps_Balloons_Mini_Shaker_layout2

Again using my Beacon Adhesive, I adhered patterned paper to the front of my chipboard base. I trimmed away excess using scissors as well as an x-acto knife. I  followed up with a sanding tool to smooth any rough edges.

Clear_Scraps_Balloons_Mini_Shaker_layout3

Next, I adhered my two middle chipboard frames as shown.  Before adding my chunky glitter, I used an embossing bag to de-static the area.  I then adhered my acrylic piece applying adhesive to the chipboard.  After I was happy with placement, I used clips to hold my shaker together to ensure a good seal.

Clear_Scraps_Balloons_Mini_Shaker_layout4

I  dabbed the front chipboard frame with embossing ink followed by using a bright blue embossing powder.  I had thought about doing a light pink but thought the blue would be a better contrast.  After the powder was set, I adhered it to the shaker with my Beacon Adhesive.

And here is a close up of my shaker assembled!  Using a solvent based liquid adhesive is usually best to adhere the shakers to your projects.

Clear_Scraps_Balloons_Mini_Shaker_layout6

I added smaller stickers as well as brads and enamel dots to accent around my photo. You can also see I  stamped the date as well as added a sentiment. (I  have hoarded a large collection of roller stamps!)
