Cat Family Puzzle Decor

Hi everyone!  It's Annie, and today I'm sharing a tutorial to make some fun home décor using brand new wood frames, wood puzzle shapes, and shakers from Clear Scraps.  The possibilities are endless when customizing this Extra Large Square Wood Puzzle Shape, but I used mine to honor my beautiful shelter cats as family.

Start by painting each piece of the Extra Large Square Wood Puzzle Shape with different colors of acrylic paint.  I knew my piece would be hanging in my kids' playroom, so decided to use four vibrant colors for extra fun.

Once dry, I stamped paw prints in white acrylic paint across all of the pieces in the form of two sets of tracks crossing diagonally.  To get a nice even impression, I applied the white paint to the stamp with a foam paint brush before making each impression on the wood.  Set aside to dry completely.

Next paint the outer part of the Heart, Square, and Deco Small Wood Frames with the same white satin acrylic paint and allow to dry.

Print out or cut your photos to fit behind each of the frame shapes and adhere the small wood frames to the photos using a strong liquid glue like Beacon 3-in-1 Craft Glue.

To decorate the Family Shaker element, start by tracing the shape onto a piece of matching scrapbook paper and cutting it out with scissors.  Adhere this paper shape to the chip back with Beacon 3-in-1 Craft Glue, then add two of the chipboard cutouts on top.  Fill the shaker with clear, white, and silver seed beads, adhere the acrylic divider, then add the last chipboard cutout (that has been painted with white acrylic paint) on top with Beacon 3-in-1 Craft Glue.

Assemble the Extra Large Square Wood Puzzle Shape and determine placement of your frames and wood shaker before adhering them all down with hot glue or Beacon 3-in-1 Craft Glue.  You can add a chipboard or paper backer to hold together the entire shape as well, but I though it might be fun to separate the pieces once in a while so chose to hang them all separately, but interlocking.
