Catching Some Sun!

Hi all! Today I have a quick and easy tutorial showing you how to make some gorgeous sun catchers. A fun craft for you and the kids, and even better yet, an awesome gift for someone special. (Mine are going to go to my daughters' school teachers as a thank you for the school year... but shhhh... don't tell them.)

Here is a sneaky at what we are creating...

Stamp On Your Acrylic

Hi everybody! Today I have a fun little layout to share with you that includes stamping. I love the dimension that stamping on acrylic gives to a project, it gives a 3 dimensional look without all of the bulk.

I started with an XL Dazed Clear Scraps Circle and some Turquoise StazOn ink, add in a doily stamp from My Mind's Eye and let the fun begin.

Csglowing1   Csglowing2   Csglowing3

Used My Mind's Eye Lime Twist papers for this. The flowers and label shape were cut using  Spellbinder's dies.

Here's a little tip for you...if you mess up with the stamping ( sometimes the acrylic can be real slippery and blurry stamped images are bound to happen) just use a NON acetone fingernail polish remover and the ink wipes completely off easy peasy!

On behalf of all of us here at Clear Scraps a big "Thank You" to all of our service men/women and their families, past and present. Hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day!

Clear Scraps Design Team Memer,

Tonya Dirk

XL Shape Layout

Social Butterfly

This is a layout which I've created using Clear Scraps acrylic XL Scallops Shape as its base. I've also used a small acrylic arrow on it.

I've used the beautiful "Hello Luscious" line by Basic Grey to create this layout. Below are some close-ups on it.

DSC_7931

I've used Shimmerz Paints to colour and add some textures to the acrylic arrow. Check my blog for a video tutorial on how I've painted this acrylic arrow. I've also used some stamps by My Stamp Box on this layout.

 DSC_7928

To create the above flourish, I've used some chippies by Dusty Attic and some Shimmerz Paints.

Try creating your own acrylic XL shape layout. It's easy and fun!

Quick "thinking of you" tag

This is the time of year when I realize just how far away Christmas is :)  Maybe it's that I start making Christmas cards in summer to prep, or maybe that it's that I haven't heard from, or made contact with certain friends since Christmas....but this season (early summer) always strikes me as an appropriate time to send out a nice "hey...thinking of you" type card to some of the friends that I don't see that often.  I whipped this one up in a matter of minutes with some good old sandpaper from my garage.

IMG_1876-1
The white office-supply tag is spritzed with Glimmer Mist, the circle of acrylic has  been run through my Cuttlebug and then the raised portions sanded to make them translucent, not transparent (my son is in the middle of a Gr. 4 Science unit on light).  It still shows the colours of the tag from below this way but the raised flowers are whitish and cloudy.  I stapled it onto my tag (yes, a regular old stapler) and added a flower and button.
Tada!  Quick & easy.  Sandpaper, stapler and few odds and ends of paper.

Thanks!

Cathy

Can I brag a little?

Yep, today I am wanting to share with you the Deco Brag Bag.  I love these little brag bags, they have the cutest little shapes to them. I printed up some of my favorite photos of my family and paired them up with the My Mind's Eye line called Lime Twist. I then used white StazOn and the Gertie Girly Stamps from the My Mind's Eye Stella & Rose line to stamp on the acrylic to add some dimension. All of the hearts and flowers were cut using dies from Spellbinders.

Loving all of those spring time colors.  Unfortunately, we are still lacking spring time weather here in the Pacific Northwest...wish I could smell the flowers in this album! LOL!

Tutorial - some new items to use with acrylic!

Hi bloggers Rita Barakat here with a tutorial!
Acrylic is such a versatile surface I'm always wondering what else I can use on it!
This is an XL Dot  from Clear Scraps and for this layout I used these new products...
Well new to me anyways! As you can see, the cardboard underneath is my drawing of what I want to happen on my page. (It doesn't always turn out exactly how I planned.)
Being acrylic I can lay my Dot right on top to follow the template.
Arranging my photos and using Glue Dots (R) in between and on top of the photos. When I am ready I will simply set the acrylic right on top of the photos and you wont notice the Glue Dots (R).

Spreading & writing in the sand...(Stone Art by Viva Decor)

Here I used the Distress Inks and pounced onto candy packaging, then mixed in the Artist Spackle.
I spread that into "waves" added my pictures, title and Alcohol Inks on the back and there you have it!
You do have to give this stuff a bit to dry but the results are worth it!
Fun Stuff!

My Fave Day layout

Happy Monday, Grace here to share with you a layout I made using Acrylic tags and an XL Dazed shape.

My fave day (1)

these are photos of last year's Mother's Day breakfast and gifts. Love how my family makes me feel extra special on Mother's Day.  I tilted the page for a different look and spread my journaling on each of the four tags.

My fave day (2)

I added some glitter glue on the edges of the XL Shape and the tags. With the tag, I added the glitter glue on with a pattern. Each of the four tags have a different design/pattern on them.

My fave day (4)

I also used letter stickers from Cosmo Cricket, paper and pink flower from Imaginesce and white flower from Accent Creative Design.

thanks for stopping by,

Grace

~OH Those Summer Memories~

Good morning from beautiful Nashville, TN!

Pinky here with a new summer project to wet your taste buds for those warm days ahead.

For t his project I used the Clear Scraps Expressions (they rock!) the word MEMORIES and the Mini Decorative Frames.

MemoriesHanger1

Oh the back of the Clear Scraps Expression I used Extreme Glitter paint, applying it with heavy brush strokes, after that dried I sprayed it with an off white paint.

MemoriesHanger2
Then on top of the Frames and Expressions I used a Unity Stamp to add all the textured dots.

Reminds me of water! :)

Happy Summer days ahead!!

Snapshots!

We are all picture people, aren't we? I adore them. I hoard them. I snap them. Even the somewhat blurry ones fascinate me because they are still freezing that moment in time, and what an amazing thing - no matter what - to be able to capture a single moment in time.

So when I was asked what kind of custom word album that wanted to create with, I new immediately that I wanted the word "SNAPSHOT." To show off those simple snaps of time that I have collected, also allowing me to have space to journal next to each picture I had taken.

Here is what I did... using LOTS of alcohol ink, crackle paste, and gesso to alter all the pages.

  Snapshot

The butterflies that you see are rub-ons on top of an extruded sheet of acrylic and then cut out, I then bent their wings up and added lots of Viva Pearl Pen dots, so those butterflies could take flight. :)

Snapshotdetail1
Snapshotdetail2

I intentionally wanted to leave negative space to the left of each picture and place that I altered, so that at some point I can handwrite in my thoughts on those pages, sort of as an art journal/album. I also thought it was a neat effect to open the pages and see the white space growing to the left, as my pictures "blossomed" from the right.

So here are the inside pages... there are a lot of 'em :)

Snapshot1
Snapshot2
Snapshot3
Snapshot4
Snapshot5
Snapshot6
Snapshot7
Snapshot8
Snapshot9

And here are a couple of the opposite pages (they all look fairly similar.) I placed a journaling box on them so that I can later write a note to the person(s) pictured, just thought that would be a fun twist in addition to my art journaling about how I felt about that picture. :)

Snapshotjournalingspot2

Oh the things you can do with some paints, gesso, stamps, ink, and CLEAR SCRAPS!!

Now, go on... go take some snapshots. Claim those moments in time!

Honor

Hi guys Rita Barakat here!
Lately my hubby has been watching "Coming Home" - you know the show where they show service men and women coming home to their families?  I can't watch it  - way too much crying involved!
But it did inspire me to make this wall hanging! When I think of the people serving our country I think of honor - we need to honor those who put their families aside to protect and serve our country.

Walk In My Garden

For the last few years I have made an album called "Walk In My Garden" every Spring. I found a set of quotes that I just love that I always incorporate into the book.

These quotes are great for photos about children and make a fabulous gift for moms, grandmas, and family members. But this year I felt that the quotes could also be used to convey a sense of "new". My sister is having a baby next month and I made this album for her to keep photos of her little ones. I think this will be a great table top album for photos of all of her children, with enough masculine details to balance the touch of pink.
This year, I opted to make a Clear Acrylic Album instead of my usual 4x4 coaster "Garden" Album. I love the Mixables Albums from Clear Scraps. They have both chipboard and acrylic diecut pages in a variety of shapes and sizes that really make for a unique album. Here I chose the Spring Mixables Album with its flower, scallop, and butterfly shaped pages.
First I prepped the pages. I peeled the protective plastic from all of the acrylic pages and doodled on them with Sharpie Paint Pen. This pen works great on acrylic and dries instantly. Then I dry brushed the edges of the pages with white acrylic paint.
While the acrylic pages were drying, I prepped the chipboard pages with Smooch Spritz by Clearsnap and more acrylic paint. I set the pages into a Color Catcher by Clearsnap and sprayed Smooch Spritz directly onto the chipboard.

The result is a subtle color but intense shine! I then painted the backs of each page with white acrylic paint and dry brushed the edges of all the pages with the same.
I put the pages back and in order and set to binding. Since this book is for a baby/children, I wanted a very soft look. I swapped out the metal rings that come with the book for a binding I made from ribbon. It's easier to make than you think!
Stack all of the pages in order so the binding holes line up.

Thread a piece of ribbon about 24" long through one of the binding holes. Tie the ribbon around a thick diameter pen or marker that will act as a spacer.

Here I am using a 1" diameter bottle of Smooch Spritz. The spacer will create enough slack in the binding to allow you to open the book and lay the pages of the book open flat.
Tie the ribbon into a knot to hold it in place and then tie a bow. Repeat for each binding hole. Add other ribbons if you 'd like.

Remove the "spacer".
I then set about decorating my book using papers from Donna Salazar Designs for GCD Studios, diecuts, buttons, and trims. I rubbed the stickers on the cover with white acrylic paint to give them a shabby chic weathered look.
To cover a page with paper, I traced the painted pages onto the paper and then loosely cut about 1/2" to the inside of the line.
I inked the edges of the papers and added them to the pages below:
I tied shipping tags to the binding between the pages and decorated them with Design Adhesives and Fairy Dust Glitter from Clearsnap.

Since this book is a gift, it does not yet have photos in it. As a finishing touch, I added the quotes I love so dearly to each page.

Quick Cards - Part 3

One of my favourite things to do when making cards is use up scraps.  I have a drawer full of paper scraps, jars of leftover buttons and ribbon ends, and, because I've been working with Clear Scraps for a few years now....I have a pile of little pieces of acrylic.  Some of them are leftovers when I've used partial mini-albums, some are pieces I've started for layouts or cards and then changed my mind on, some of them are little pieces that have been die cut with a Sizzix .....but all of them are still great, and all of them are still perfect for little card embellishments!

You can look here to see Part 1 and Part 2 of my Quick Cards.

Part 3.....is really kind of a prompt, more than a tutorial.  I really like playing around with paints and other dimensional mediums but I am in no way an expert....I just like to play.  Hopefully when you see the cards I made, you'll know that, if I can do it....anyone can :)  And can I suggest, if you're just getting started playing like this, that you get a few of these Mini Ornament albums like these  Mini Cupcake albums that I used pages from to make these cards.  They're perfect little embellishments to put on a whole set of cards.

This first card has a page from the Cupcake Ornament album with the bottom smeared with pink acrylic paint (Claudine Hellmuth) and the bottom with rub-on adhesive strips and flocking (DCWV).  I used my fingers to put on the paint to add to the swirly-icing-like feel and avoid paintbrush strokes.

Happy Birthday card 2 - acrylic cupcake

This second card has a page from the same album but instead of simple paint, I've finished the top of the cupcake with a thick layer of Gesso and when it was dry, I sprayed it with some pink Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels).  The bottom is patterned paper (Basic Grey).

Happy birthday card - acrylic cupcake

For this third card, I used a page from the Snowflake Ornament album.  I covered this one in large glitter ice cristals from Viva Decor.  Just before I put it on the card, I painted the edge of the snowflake with a paint marker.

Winter card - acrylic snowflake

I hope you'll give some paints and gels and glitters a chance the next time you're picking up piece of acrylic and wondering what to do with it.

Thanks :)

Cathy
